Tips For Lighting That Spark

It takes a lot of self-awareness to tap into your dreams and passions. It's easy to say that you'd love to be a professional basketball player, a celebrity, or a world-famous tech guru, but what happens if you don't have the skills or talents to carry out these dreams? Here's some tips on how to rethink your personal dreams:

  • If your dream is to become a professional athlete, or something that doesn't match your skill-set then consider the many other jobs within that industry. For example: someone who loves sports can consider sportscasting, journalism, coaching, sports medicine, a job at Nike ... there's all kind of positions where you can still engage with the sports you love.

  • When looking for your dreams ask yourself the following questions: What are my strengths and weaknesses? What keeps me motivated? When am I the happiest? What makes me lose track of time?

  • Start a project just because it sounds like fun. For example: you and your friends can start a YouTube channel where you record videos together. This may not be your lifelong dream, but starting something new is exciting and a great learning experience. Who knows? It may lead to sparking a new interest.

  • Take a look at lists online of nontraditional activities and careers. Did you know people get paid to be chocolate tasters, food stylists, waterslide testers, and volcanologists?

  • Remember ... there's something out there for you! Everyone has special talents, but some people have to search harder to find them.
