A lot of things have changed since I was in school, but the basic issues have stayed the same -- parent expectations, insecurities, peer pressure, school cliques, body image issues, and so on. My greatest wish as a teen was to fit in, have some sort of talent, and to feel good about how I looked. I just wanted to blend in. I had no interest in finding my TRUE self, and if I did find it I wouldn't have wanted anyone to know it. I didn't spend a lot of time asking myself what I wanted out of life.

I always loved to write. It started with poems and stories no one would ever see. In class, I doodled and wrote ideas in the margins of notebooks. At home, I pretended to do my homework while documenting my entire day in my journal. And then life got in the way and I stopped writing.

It took me 10 years to get back to writing. In 2012 (while researching a book), I started crossing paths with teens who were incredibly accomplished...one right after another. The question that kept gnawing at me was "how are these ordinary teens doing such extraordinary things?" Did they have access to better education? More supportive parents? Were they geniuses? Trust fund babies? Or related to celebrities?

I decided to answer these questions. In the process, I've spoken to some of the most inspirational, interesting, and, unique people I've ever encountered. They've inspired me to write "Igniting Your Spark: Discovering Who You Are From the Inside Out" coming out in 2017, and my follow-up book "Ignite Your Image" available soon.
